Both men are instructed to focus on Christ & His word. In Ephesus & Crete there were men whose low character disqualified them for spiritual leadership. The WORD can help all of us develop Christ-like character. The great commission has a couple of elements;
1) get them into Christ, Go teach, baptize;
2) get Christ into them, make disciples by teaching them to do what Jesus commanded the apostles.
