Ecclesiastes Explained at Eforie Church

Kohelet (HE) Ecclesiastes (GR) Teacher (EN)

How do you use what you understood from this book?

1:9 What has been is what shall be, and what is done is what shall be done; there is nothing new under the sun

2:26 For to the man who is pleasing in His sight, He gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy, but to the sinner He gives the task of gathering and accumulating in order to give to the one who is pleasing in God’s sight

3:1 There is an occasion for everything, and a right time for every activity

4:9 Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts

5:2 Do not be hasty to speak

7:3 Grief is better than laughter, for when a face is sad, a heart may be glad

8:8 No one has authority over the wind to restrain it, and there is no authority over the day of death

11:1 Send your bread on the surface of the waters, for after many days you may find it

12:1 So remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of adversity come, and the years approach when you will say, I have no delight in them

12:13-14 When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is: fear God and keep His commands. This is the whole duty of all men. For God will bring every work to judgment, including every hidden thing, whether good or evil

How to get more useful wisdom

Listen to the Book of Proverbs (Mishlei) to get more wisdom, humility, diligence, prosperity, generosity! For which situation do you want more discernment? What useful skills are evergreen?

How do you use what you understood from this book of Proverbs?
I find the book of Proverbs to be the largest single source of practical life skills you can read from any source There are 31 chapters, so if you read one chapter every day for a month you will have an education on how to live a Godly life. The book of Proverbs is complimented by Ecclesiastes, which chronicles the life of Solomon and his quest to find the answers to the purpose of life and the ability to find contentment, happiness, and fulfillment as he returned from a life of empty idolatry, debauchery, and sin, to a life of dedication to God where one can actually find true fulfillment and purpose. An excellent study!

Psalms How to Pray and Praise God so He will answer

How do you use what you understood from the book of Tehillim aka Psalms as Prayers and Praises lifted to Yehovah God by His people?

Happy is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor take the path of sinners, nor sits in the seats of the scornful. Yet he delights in the law of Yehovah, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither, and whatever he does, shall prosper.
The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For Yehovah knows the way of the righteous, yet the way of the wicked will perish.

Job Blessed yet Patient in Suffering Trials

Job was a wealthy patriarch and God-fearing man with a good life and a large family. God allowed him to be tried by the accuser with loss and sickness. Some friends tried to argue with Job about why he was suffering. At the end, God restored his health and wealth.

How do you use what you understood from the book of Job?

Ezekiel 14:12-20 Son of man, when a land sins against Me by committing a trespass, then I stretch out my hand upon it, and break the staff of the bread thereof, and send famine upon it, and cut off from it man and beast, even if these three men, Noa, Daniel, and Iyov, were in it, they would deliver yet their own lives by their righteousness, declares Iehovah God.

James 5:11 We count them happy which endure. You have heard of the patience of Iyov, and have seen what the Lord finally brought about; that the Lord is full of mercy and compassion.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, yet with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

1:8 Iehovah said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Iyov? No one else on earth is like him, a man of perfect integrity, who fears God and turns away from evil.

1:21 Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will leave this life. Iehovah gives, and Iehovah takes away. Praise the name of Iehovah.

1:32 You speak as a foolish woman speaks, Iov told his wife. Should we accept only good from God and not adversity?

27:10 Will he delight in the Almighty (el Shaday)? Will he call on God at all times?

28:28 The fear of Iehovah, is wisdom, and to turn from evil is understanding.

31:1 I have made a covenant with my eyes, to not look at a young woman.

42:10 After Iyov had prayed for his friends, Iehovah restored his prosperity and doubled his previous possessions.
