Hosea means He Saves. The story is about Israel being unfaithful to God by worshiping idols. That is why Israel was defeated by Assyrians and taken as captives. God tells Hosea to marry a prostitute and have children with her, and after she was unfaithful to buy her back, in order to show His love for His people.
